FeedWordPress - Autoblogging for WordPress Mu

Autoblogging for WordPress MU
Great announcement from FeedWordPress - it now supports WordPress Mu!  I’m going to try installing it on Chimpsimple.net and see how it goes.

I have been using prior version on several other blogs and it works great!

Give it a try and see what you think.

Version 0.991 fixes some bugs that were present in version 0.99, adds a couple of minor features, reorganizes the file structure of the archive, and adds one very significant change. Let’s start with the significant change, which I am very happy to announce:

* WORDPRESS MU COMPATABILITY: FeedWordPress should now be compatible with recent releases of WordPress MU. Once FeedWordPress is made available as a plugin, each individual blog can choose to activate FeedWordPress and syndicate content from its own set of contributors.

Feedwordpress is the most stable plugin in its genre. Some other plugins, like wp-o-matic shoots my websites down across the board when it automatically posts and repeatedly does that non-stop, leading to resource overuse.

However, Feedwordpress lacks one key feature I want the most which is automatically putting posts from different feeds into different categories. For example, from a news feed into news category and from a comments feed into comment category.

With the new version of FeedWordPress, you can edit each feed individually from the main Syndication page and assign different categories to each of them.

What I miss the most is that apparently I can’t get both permalinks to the syndicated post on the site, *as well as* permalinks to the original source of the post. There is only one option which replaces the WP permalink title with a permalink to the source. What if you want the permalink to the original source below the post or someplace else. FeedWordPress seems to need a way to customize what’s being posted further, on a per-feed basis. Other than that, it seems much more stable and reliable than WP-o-matic.

Re: the grievance described above, here’s the FeedWordPress API described, which makes it comparatively easy to do what I wanted - by pulling in the permalinks and posting them along with syndicated posts.

@Morten, that is correct, take a look at the custom fields and you will see a listing for “syndication_permalink” or you can use it in your theme by adding the_syndication_permalink().

    Good Luck,

Thanks. I see it :-) However, I’m still not sure exactly where to add it, in order to make the permalink show up in posts. The only place I can think of would be in the skin, but then I’d have to check against if the post was syndicated or not, as I wouldn’t want it for all posts, just the syndicated ones.
