How Good is WordPress? 9 WordPress Alternatives

How Good is WordPress? I love it but it is good to keep your eyes open … ;)

I came across this list and it is worth taking a look at and seeing the alternatives.

9 WordPress Alternatives - Mitchelaneous

Drupal - Drupal is a little more of a WordPress on steroids. Lots of goodies and better membership system in place too.

AJAXPress - A little buggy by looking at the demo but will become a better idea once it has had more time to get polished.

Textpattern - Flexable and open source blogging solution - much of the same WordPress look and feel.

Serendipity - This is a PHP-powered weblog application which gives the user an easy way to maintain a weblog or even a complete homepage.

Joomla - Like Drupal, might be too feature rich for the casual blogging fan - but a good engine for in depth web sites or basic blogs.

b2evolution - An old one, but still a good one - and can hold it’s own weight still with the other selections out there.

Simplog - Simple, yet powerful - the name says it all here. You want basics without the fluff - go with Simplog.

Wikiblog - This one tries to mix the blogging and wiki sides of things into an interesting mashup of content creation.

Sblog - Another one similar to WordPress, looks like it is playing catchup too. Once it gets there though, might be worthy competition.

Any other packages to add to the list?

Autoblogging Video: YouTube RSS Feeds, Widgets and WordPress

How-to Make a Internet Video on Demand Server that costs Nothing (Really)

Automatic, Free Video Content Daily

Video content is fun to add to your site and what better way than automatic linking to YouTube’s top videos. It saves space, time, and the users decide on the best posts. It can’t get much fresher than this!

5 Steps to Making a RSS Video Widget

1. Select a YouTube RSS Video Feed

2. Select a RSS Widget from Widgetbox

3. Add the RSS Widget code to your WordPress Text Widget

That’s it, your done!

You can see an example at YouGenerate.com

1. YouTube RSS Feeds

Here is a link to all of YouTubes video feeds. Copy the URL of the feed, you will need it for the RSS Widget.

Once you have the feed you like then add it to a Widget.

2. Widgetbox RSS Widgets

I like Widgetbox because they have so many widget to choose from. I chose the RSS Scroll Box because it fit in the sidebar nicely. If you want a different look do a search on widgetbox with “rss” and find the widget the you like.

3. Create a Text Widget in WordPress - Add RSS Widget Code

In WordPress Administration select Presentation, Widgets and add a new Text widget.

Drag-and-drop the Text Widget into your themes sidebar.

Open the widget window and paste the RSS Scroll Box code (javascript) in and close the widget. Select Save Changes to save your edits.

Take a look at your site and make any adjustments you need to.

Cool Stuff

You can add as many widgets and feeds as you want. Use this to build niche Video on Demand servers without the cost of streaming server, bandwidth, storage …

Give it a try it is really fun and cost effective. :)

Have you tried this yet? Post a comment and let me know.
